Study at the Australian Learning Group (ALG) to learn how to help the community and make a difference

The Diploma of Community Services at the ALG - Australian Learning Group (formerly 4Life College) offers students an opportunity to get into the sector with a variety of challenging and interesting roles specialising in helping the community and making a real difference in the world.

Students may be involved in managing, coordinating, and or delivering person-centred services to individuals, groups, or communities. You will be providing direct support to individuals or groups of individuals using a case management model. There are over 50 occupations that fall under Community Service such as:

  • Working with youth
  • Job network
  • Disability services
  • Mental health services
  • Drugs and alcohol treatments
  • Domestic violence
  • Housing
  • Aboriginal issues
  • Migration centres
  • Settlement services

At Australian Learning Group, you will be taught the Strengths-Based Recovery Model. Instead of focusing too narrowly on the challenges and issues clients face, this model encourages community service workers to help their clients use their strengths and resources to overcome obstacles. By focusing on the positives, clients are enabled to work on their strengths to achieve their goals, rather than consistently being confronted with their own shortcomings.

Diploma of Community Services at Australian Learning Group prepares their students with real “hands-on” experience in the industry and has a practical approach. This two-year Diploma at ALG includes a Work Placement of 400 hours to be completed in an approved community services organisation.

Job Outcomes:

  • Welfare Worker
  • Youth work
  • Working with carers
  • Early Intervention Worker
  • Program Coordinator
