How much does an Australian Student visa cost?
The cost of an Australian Student visa depends on your circumstances, but typically, if you are applying for your first Student visa, the Australian Department of Home Affairs will charge you $1,600 AUD plus a credit card fee.
Australian Student visa fee in 2025 (updated April 2025)
Last year, the Australian government raised the price of a Student visa application from $710 AUD to $1,600 AUD.
The cost of your Australian Student visa will be even higher if this is your second or subsequent onshore visa renewal. In that case, an additional $700 AUD fee, the Subsequent Temporary Application Charge, will apply. If you are applying with your partner, the Department of Home Affairs will charge an additional $1,190 AUD plus a credit card fee to include them in your application.
Lower cost of a Student visa for certain nationalities
In March 2025, the Australian government introduced a lower Student visa fee for eligible Pacific Island and Timor-Leste Student visa applicants. If you hold a passport from the Federated States of Micronesia, Fiji, Kiribati, Nauru, Palau, Papua New Guinea, the Republic of the Marshall Islands, Samoa, Solomon Islands, Timor-Leste, Tonga, Tuvalu, or Vanuatu, you can apply for a Student visa at a reduced fee of $710 AUD, and the fee to add your partner is also lower at $530 AUD.
This is how you can save hundreds of dollars
The Student visa fee is one of the three main costs when applying for a student visa in Australia. The easiest way to save hundreds, or even thousands of dollars is on your Overseas Student Health Cover (OSHC). You can do this with just a few clicks by comparing all available providers with OSHC Australia.
